There are currently 29 farms in the province that produce
predominately Balsam Fir. It is a developing industry with the
majority of sites on cutovers. There are many opportunities for
this industry because of the abundance of areas containing Balsam Fir,
the limited capital investment that is required, the positive market
opportunities and it provides supplementary income on farms.
The challenges in the christmas tree industry in the province is the
lack of technical expertise, the problem of Fir & Pine insect
pests, and moose browsing damage.
