Kirby, Garry, January, 1993, Frequency of Occurrence of Fall
Frost for Selected Stations in Newfoundland and Labrador, Report Number 93-1,
Newfoundland Soil Survey, Soil and Land Management Division, 18 pages.
This publication deals specifically with frost occurrences
between the beginning of August and the end of November for selected climate
stations across Newfoundland and Labrador. It contains a frost data table and a
table giving the 10 to 90 per cent probability of frost occurrence and
associated calendar dates. The frequency and distribution of fall frost is very
important in agriculture, especially during harvest time. However, damage by
frost can happen at any time and the severity of damage depends on crop type,
phenological stage, frost sensitivity level, and site location.
