Kirby, Garry, December, 1991, Frequency of Occurrence of Spring Frost for Selected Stations in Newfoundland and Labrador, Report Number 91-11, Newfoundland Soil Survey, Soil and Land Management Division, 18 pages. This report gives information on occurrences of spring frost for May and June.
This publication deals specifically with frost occurrences between the first of May and the end of June for selected climate stations across Newfoundland and Labrador. It contains a frost data table and a table which gives 10 to 90 per cent probability of frost occurrence and associated calendar dates. The frequency and distribution of spring frost is very important to agriculture, especially during planting time. However, damage by frost can happen at any time and the severity of damage depends on many factors, including crop type, phenological stage, frost sensitivity level, and site location.
