The Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Agriculture Research Initiative is a three year federal/provincial cost-shared program which is funded under the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador AgriFlexibility Agreement for total funding of $7.5 M or $2.5 M annually on a 60:40 federal-provincial basis.
Funding will be provided to build both public and private sector applied research capacity in Newfoundland and Labrador in support of the competitiveness of the agriculture sector. The program will provide a non-repayable contribution of up to a maximum of $500,000 per project with the applicant providing a minimum of 15 per cent of the total cost of the project. Projects must demonstrate that they employ a sound scientific methodology, are founded upon collaborative relationships between industry and government, are relevant to the agriculture industry, and support evidence-based decision making. All projects must be completed by February 28, 2014. The program will end on March 31, 2014. The Agriculture Research Initiative is delivered by the Forestry and Agrifoods Agency.
