Legislation and Compliance Division
Responsibilities
- The Legislation and Compliance Division provides support for all natural resources enforcement within the department. This division also provides provincial and department-wide direction in implementing legislation and policies affecting forest resources.
Services
- The Legislation and Compliance Division is responsible for the development of policies, legislation and operational guidelines and procedures related to the enforcement of forestry regulations.
- The Division is responsible for compiling, revising and distributing to compliance staff, operational and legislative guidelines.
- The Intelligence and Investigation Section directs and coordinates intelligence gathering and investigations related to all natural resource legislation and audits regional compliance operations, ensuring province-wide consistency.
- Program specialists oversee compliance efforts related to forestry and lands.
- Operational support, supervision, direction and coordination is provided to regional staff on special investigations involving intelligence gathering, surveillance
and undercover operations.
- The development and implementation of specialized training related to compliance.
- Liaising with other natural resource agencies in the development of cooperative enforcement programs with the overall goal of improving the protection of the province's natural resources. Joint initiatives are encouraged with all enforcement agencies, including various provincial government departments, Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC), Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), and Federal and Provincial Parks; providing for a higher level of enforcement that benefits both the agency’s involved and the province.
