Mineral Lands Division

Responsibilities

The Mineral Lands Division is responsible for the administration of mineral land tenure, which includes issuance of mineral licenses, exploration approvals, and mining leases; also for administration of quarrying, including issuance of exploration permits and quarry permits and leases.

Services

  • Issuance and administration of mineral licenses ('claims’) through the online MIRIAD system
  • Monitoring and reporting of exploration activity
  • Approval of exploration plans for mineral exploration
  • Inspection of exploration sites for regulatory compliance
  • Advice on conducting exploration in the province
  • Operation of drill core libraries and collection of core
  • Issuance of quarry exploration licenses; quarry permits and quarry leases.
  • Inspection of quarries for regulatory compliance
