An avalanche affected a group of snowmobilers in the Lewis Hills. Three were ascending a slope behind a cabin when the second rider triggered a large slab avalanche. All three escaped unhurt but the avalanche was large enough to snap off trees on the slopes below.

A second avalanche was also reported on the web site the same weekend as follows:- "Was riding up near the gorge yesterday and tripped an avalanche. Made a loop in around the bottom of a small hill and when I pulled away it went. I never even saw it. The boys were waving to me but I never noticed. I was going slow too so I got lucky. The boys said it just missed me; when I looked back my tracks were buried. It wasn't huge but I'd say you could fill a lot of dump trucks with the snow - scariest thing ever."

This avalanche appeears to have taken place norh of the Lewis Hills, possibly in Gros Morne National Park.
