A storm caused waves to overtop break-water, washed away part of road, damaged slipways and flooded homes. The same storm also damaged Parson's Pond and Stephenville Crossing, through waves breaching barrier beaches; and presumably other areas were damaged also.

In 1955 a severe storm affected Cox's Cove and other Bay of Islands communities resulting in flooding and damage to boats.

Flooding occurs along Cox's Brook and the sea-front. The worst floods occur when high winds, high tides, and heavy rainfall combine.
