Two serious floods occurred in the Glovertown area in 1984 and 1988. In 1984 an ice jam on the Terra Nova River formed following a mild spell that caused break-up and increased stream-flow. The ice held up against the frozen harbour and formed a dam. Two houses were seriously damaged in the resulting flood. In 1988 an ice jam occurred 1 km upstream from the river mouth, and EMO personnel were called in to clear it. Minor damage occurred.
