"Heavy rain and high seas backed by gale-force winds caused some flooding and likely thousands of dollars in damages on the south coast of the province overnight Friday, creating some hairy moments for homeowners. On the Burin Peninsula, in Lamaline, at least three homes were flooded during the storm. There was no immediate report of damages to homes in other south coast communities. The storm hit the Maritimes much harder, shutting down schools and government buildings. Another weather record was beaten in the St. John's area during the storm which started Friday afternoon - a walloping 40.3 millimetres of rain fell on the northeast Avalon."
