In Riverside Drive a landslide almost claimed the life of Owen Legge. When trying to divert the flow of mud and water away from his home, a landslide occurred. Mr. Legge was operating a back-hoe and the machine was buried until only the smoke stack was showing. Mr Legge saw the landslide coming and elected to jump from the machine, but before he got clear one boot got stuck in the mud and was left behind. Photos of the inside of Mr. Legge's apartment show several feet of mud. During the same event a landslide blocked the Southern Shore Highway at Mount Moriah. 1.25 inches of rainfall with warm temperatures and snow melt on 25 and 26 of December led to flooding. Damage estimated to be in the area of $50,000 -$100,000. The hardest hit areas were Massey Drive, Riverside Drive, and Old Humber Road.
