Following a downpour on the Monday night a landslide occurred between 1 and 3pm at the base of Mount Moriah past Hayes Court. This was described as the worst landslide in the history of the Newfoundland railway. Several thousands of tons of rock, clay and heavy trees from an area 300 feet laterally by 13 feet deep were involved. It started 250 feet above the rail track ad stopped within 100 yards of residential areas in Pleasant Cove. The railway was blocked for 3 days. During the same storm, a trestle bridge over the Exploits River was destroyed.
