Rock and Mineral Kit

This unique collection of rocks, minerals and fossils showcases Newfoundland and Labrador’s world-class geology and mineral deposits. In each kit one will find 46 samples, of which 44 have been collected from various regions throughout the province.

The booklet is a guide to complement the collection of samples in the Rock and Mineral Kit. It provides a brief description of each of the samples, including its mineral or rock class, chemical composition, physical properties, common uses, where applicable, and collection site(s).

  This poster appears on the inside cover of the Rock and Mineral Kit and illustrates the 46 samples represented in each kit.
• Minerals of Newfoundland & Labrador
  Minerals of Newfoundland and Labrador provides a brief description of the metallic, non-metallic and other types of minerals from the province. This resource is currently only available online.

• Once Upon A Mine: Story of PreConfederation Mines on the Island of Newfoundland by Wendy Martin
  An electronic version of the book first published by the Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (CIM) in 1993 which presents early mining in Newfoundland and Labrador.
• Minerals and Rocks Series . Popular Geoscience is a series of downloadable fact sheets dealing with Minerals and Rocks and Energy. They help celebrate the International Year of Planet Earth (2007-2009) .
• Manuels Pyrophyllite Mine
  This article provides a brief historical account of pyrophyllite mining on the Avalon Peninsula.
