Mining is one of Newfoundland and Labrador's largest and oldest industries, and a major contributor to the economy of our province, especially in rural areas. A total of sixteen mineral commodities are produced or mined in the province. Six metal mines currently produce iron ore, nickel, copper, zinc, cobalt, antimony and gold. Other operations mine slate, limestone and dolomite, amongst other commodities. Our mining and mineral exploration companies directly provided high-paying jobs to more than 6000 men and women in the province. Expenditures by these companies found their way into all corners of Newfoundland and Labrador.
This area contains some guidelines related to development and mining in the Province.
