Mineral Occurrence Maps

There are three series of mineral occurrence maps available. The first series was published in 1976 (Douglas and Hsu, 1976) and provides complete coverage for the province. The maps are accompanied by two publications namely "Mineral Occurrence Tables Labrador" and "Mineral Occurrence Tables Newfoundland". These publications provide brief data about occurrences and are available as Open Files LAB 326 and NFLD 888.

Compilation of the second series of more detailed maps (generally 1:250,000 scale) began in 1979. Coverage is complete for Newfoundland but only partially so for Labrador. These maps show deposit locations on a geological base and provide a mineral occurrence listing.

The third series, which are produced digitally on demand, are in full colour and are organized by mineral deposit theme. They are generally compiled at either 1: 1 million or 1: 500,000 scale on geological bases and include a mineral occurrence listing. Presently there are four maps of this series available:

  • Epigenetic Gold and Related Mineralization, Newfoundland; Map 2000-08, Open File Nfld/2692
  • Copper and Associated Mineralization, Newfoundland; Map 2000-24, Open File Nfld/2701
