"About two weeks ago the melting snow and ice fell from the cliffs on Baccalieu Island and completely destroyed the fish houses, flakes and stages there owned by Wm. and George Button. The debris was later completely washed away and the men got little of the material left. Last year William had a similar accident. Fortunately the men's dwellings were not very near the scene of the avalanche."
